It was founded in 1820 to answer questions raised by the government in the field of health, the development and dissemination of medical sciences, but it increasingly took public health questions in the broad sense. The building completed in 1902 has a classical facade. Exceptional library of medical history with 30,000 volumes, open to researchers by appointment.
