Maison de Victor Hugo / Pierre Antoine
  • The museum brings together the two places that Victor Hugo lived the longest, in Paris and Guernsey. The apartment in Place des Vosges, occupied by Victor Hugo from 1832 to 1848, evokes his life through movable objects in the middle of which he lived and works illustrating his writings. The museum presents temporary exhibitions highlighting the rich collections and the visionary cartoonist that was Victor Hugo. Extensive renovations have resulted in the development of a garden and café (open in spring 2021).

Today Place des Vosges, the apartment occupied by Victor Hugo from 1832 to 1848, then Place Royale, traces the entire life of the writer through the three great periods that he himself set out in Actes et Paroles: before exile, during exile, since exile. Founded by Paul Meurice in 1902, who donated his collections to the City of Paris, the Maison de Victor Hugo has a large collection of drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures.
