Intérieur de l'abri anti-aérien (Ville de Bois-Colombes, Studio des Bourguignons/Richard Loret).
In the late 1930s, as the war approached, the town of Bois-Colombes put in place passive defence measures to protect the population from possible bombing. A shelter was dug under the Republic Square around 1938. It measures 97 meters, had 3 access by stairs and could accommodate 388 adults or 485 children.
It is a valuable testimony to life during the Second World War and to the bombing that hit the city. Indeed, Bois-Colombes experienced more than 400 anti-aircraft alerts between 1939 and 1944 and was bombed 3 times in September and December 1943.
The commented visit of the shelter (duration: 45 min) will be enriched with a reading of extracts of testimonies from this period.
