A costume designer for the Opéra, for various theatres, for magazines and films, Charles Bétout was the principal costume designer for the Comédie-Française from 1919 to 1939. He created important series of watercolours for productions requiring hundreds of characters. Celebrating the tercentenary of Molière in 1922, the Comédie-Française went up all its plays and designed various events to celebrate the great author.
