Frontera / Procesión – A Ritual of Água [A Water Ritual]

Amanda Piña

Dance - Outside the walls.

Rendezvous in front of the Jean Vilar Theatre in Vitry-sur-Seine.

In partnership with the Festival d'automne à Paris, La Briqueterie – CDCN du Val-de-Marne and the Théâtre Jean Vilar.
Mexican-Chilean artist Amanda Piña invites you to take part in a dance stroll in the streets of Vitry-sur-Seine. Frontera / Procesión – A Ritual of Água is an energetic dance for public space inspired by indigenous rituals and hip-hop culture. Through this dance, Amanda Piña seizes the public space to rise collectively and artistically against the multiple oppressions that women’s bodies undergo.
In an approach at the crossroads of anthropology, history, philosophy, visual arts and dance, she explores the possibilities of a choreography of borders, mixing colonial narratives, indigenous practices and hip-hop culture. By associating with her work people on the margins, women in precarious situations, vulnerability and amateurs, the choreographer invents a contemporary «water ritual», imagines new forms of solidarity, movements aimed at decolonizing the arts, but also the bodies.

The MAC VAL is the first museum to be exclusively devoted to contemporary art in France. The artistic policy of the museum is precisely defined: contemporary art in France, and is exercised in a perspective of influence in order to propose the discovery of the art of our time to all audiences. The meeting is at the heart of the MAC VAL project: a unique collection that shows a strong commitment to the inhabitants and that contributes to the identity of the territory. Certainly the identity of MAC VAL rests above all on a humanist vision of culture. This peculiarity of the museum is part of the national and international museum landscape, accompanying the artistic policy based on the historical anchoring of the collection in the 1950s and its prospective vision: report on the creation of today through the enrichment of the collection of existing works and commissions, invitations to artists.
