On the occasion of the 2022 European Heritage Days, the SNHF invites you to discover the horticultural heritage of a plant that you know as geranium… Pelargonium! Do you have in mind the bright red geranium planters of your grandparents? Often considered obsolete, the diversity of pelargonium is nevertheless astonishing. Discover the multiple faces of this flower and its history through exhibition and workshop around the written, graphic and living heritage.
On the agenda:
EXHIBITIONS: «Livres et Pélargoniums: illustration d'un patrimoine horticole» in three stages along the route. Discover the history of this surprising plant through the rare books of the library and the different techniques of illustration. Admire the delicacy of contemporary drawing boards. Marvel at the genius of horticulturists in the face of the variety of potted Pelargonium from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris.
ANIMATIONS: - Cutting workshop every fixed time (on-site registration). Are you interested in growing geraniums/pelargonium? Come meet the experts of this plant and bring a pelargonium cuttings home! - Demonstration of Pélargonium’s botanical drawing with the Section Beaux-Arts in charge of the SNHF’s botanical illustration courses. - Discovery trail on the fragrant pélargoniums and meetings with expert gardeners of the Arboretum of Versailles-Chèvreloup (Museum) and the SNHF.
