The course of the Seine has taken many water paths over geological times… during glacial times when its mouth was close to England, sometimes invisible in tropical climates where marine incursions occupied the Parisian basin, sometimes marshy and extending over vast expanses, sometimes torrential at the end of the last glaciation, 10,000 years ago … Traces of these periods can still be observed today, the steep limestone slopes of the slopes of Guernes, Moisson and Roche Guyon, the floodplain of the Bassée, the largest wetland of Ile de France, in Seine and Marne, the ancient meanders of the Marais Vernier in Normandy …
