The Six Suites for Solo Cello by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) are both the foundation and the jewel of the cello repertoire.
But what characterizes baroque cello playing? In what precisely is it different from the modern instrument? Can these two forms of interpretation even be beneficial to each other?
As part of an intensive research project, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau has studied the baroque cello and presents a selection of movements from the six Suites, performed on both the baroque cello and the modern instrument.
During the performance of his program, he highlights the musicological, compositional, instrumental and stylistic aspects of the performance.
