Concert of the Paris University Orchestra and Choir in the Sorbonne
The Orchestre et Chœur des Universités de Paris (O.C.U.P.) is an association that brings together around 300 high-level instrumentalist and chorister students each year. This training is intended to promote the instrumental and vocal musical practice of students of higher education and to allow them to perform at concerts in Paris and European universities, as well as in prestigious venues such as the Chapelle Saint-Louis des Invalides, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and… the Sorbonne!
Recognized as being of general interest in 2001, the association is open to all students from universities and higher education institutions in Paris and Île-de-France. In addition to the musical practice, it allows multidisciplinary meetings between students from different backgrounds and also seeks to promote exchanges with European universities and students benefiting from the European Erasmus programme. The two groups thus bring together French and foreign students of about thirty nationalities, having behind them many years of studies in conservatories or music schools.
Since its creation in 1993, a total of more than 4,000 students have gathered over the years to practice music, regularly in the company of such great names as Anne Queffélec, Raphaël Pidoux… Students can also count on professional direction: the orchestra has been conducted since 2008 by Carlos Dourthé, supersolist cello of the French National Orchestra for many years, and assistant to Kurt Masur. The choir has been directed since 2007 by internationally renowned composer Guillaume Connesson, assisted by Cyril Arnaud-Chatellier.
These young musical talents will offer you a special concert Journées européennes du patrimoine in the Sorbonne. This promises a program interpreted by masters hands!
