On the occasion of the 130 years of the birth of the driver’s license, we invite you to confront the dangers of traffic in Paris through the ages, to better understand the missions of the Prefecture of Police which manages traffic flows and which must stem the nuisances generated by these flows, constantly adapting to the evolution of the means of locomotion.

The Police Prefecture Museum was commissioned in 1909 by Prefect Louis Lépine. Located in the Ve Arrondissement police hotel, the museum traces the history of the Parisian police from the 17th century to the present day. The 2,000 pieces presented, unique for some, evoke the events in which the police took part, memories of the history of Paris but also of that of France.
