This architectural jewel, whose construction began in 1867 at the request of Napoleon III in order to entertain the court that accompanied him during his stays in Compiègne, was inaugurated, after a long sleep, in 1991. Exceptional for its volume, the Imperial Theatre is also exceptional for its acoustic qualities. The famous conductor Carlo Maria Giulini considered the hall «one of the most perfect in the world, more accomplished than that of the Vienna Musikverein, yet the reference in the matter.»
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, come (re)discover this Compiégnois heritage high place. Rendezvous on Saturday 17 September from 14:00 to 18:00 to meet the Imperial Theatre.
Duration of the visit: 1h30.
