A former stronghold of Hainaut, the castle of Potelles was first built by the Chevalier Gilles de Mortagne around 1290 and former stronghold of Hainaut, the castle of Potelles is a unique witness of our history. Medieval fortress, Potelles has become over time a home of pleasure. Towers and walls, suffered invasions, fire, wars. Since the 13th century, women and men have always raised the castle. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Canon of Carondelet undertook many projects to restore the castle. In 1832, he donated it to his niece, Eugénie Adélaïde de Carondelet, wife of Jean-Philippe Fremin du Sartel, bodyguard of King Louis XVIII, and ancestors of the present owner. Potelles has been listed in the Historical Monuments Inventory since January 19, 1944.
