The Bailiwick was built in 1600. Of Flemish Renaissance style, it is the symbol of the golden age of the city under the Spanish occupation. Initially, it was the former guard corps of the bourgeois militia. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it received the court of the Bailiff several times (it rendered justice in the name of the king or the lord), hence its name today. On an architectural level, there are fine stone columns supporting the arcades. The facades are richly decorated with friezes. The Bailliage is characterized by its 3 facades overlooking 3 streets.
