Guided tour of an underground gallery
Guided tour of an underground gallery accessible by a staircase of about ten meters, in groups of 15 maximum. The descent brings the visitors on a commented route of about 50 m for half an hour. Helmets and protections are provided. Recommended sneakers or walking shoes. On the surface, a virtual tour experience in immersion in the quarries is offered to all in a room also hosting an exhibition (posters on various themes: history, geology, technique, legends and risks and hazards related to careers) The historical context of the quarries will be illustrated by the presentation of a scale model in the exhibition hall. External panels briefly detail the history of the buildings around the neighbouring Republic Square. The church, nearby, is open; 12th century construction illustrating the use of Lezennes stone The descent is not recommended for children under 6 years of age and people with difficulties in the descents and ascents of stairs. The descent by a staircase, type of cellar staircase, is long and steep, the steps are uneven. The quarry floor is bumpy, sometimes wet, so slippery. The temperature is 12°C. Only surface activities are accessible to RMCs: mock-up, exhibition, virtual reality experience. The visit is only by reservation, from Monday 5 September until Friday 16 September 5pm, the eve of the Heritage Days weekend.
