About the location

Fort Pierquin (dit Fort d'Englos)
Rue Saint Martin - 59320 Ennetières-en-Weppes
  • Nord
  • Hauts-de-France
In April 1886, the new Minister of War, General Boulanger, decided to give the military establishments the name of a «character who had honored the Army».
Fort d'Englos became Fort Pierquin (the name of a brigadier general who was fatally wounded in the battle at Lannoy in 1794 - North Ardennes).
Fort Nicolas Pierquin is a military fort built from 1879 by General Serré de Rivières on a surface of 10.5 ha. It was part of a set of six forts and two batteries ensuring the defense of Lille.
Downgraded by decree of August 23, 1962, it will remain in the military domain until October 4, 1996, when the commune of Ennetières-en-Weppes becomes owner.
