Go with your guide on the footsteps of the shoe, still present today in the urban landscape of Lillers. Discover how the Fanien workshops were able, at the end of the 19th century, to revolutionise the way this everyday object was made until they allowed full employment in the early 1900s. From workers' housing to cooperatives, a whole city lives at the pace of this industry. At the end of the tour, push the doors of the shoe house and discover the steps of making a shoe thanks to the tools, machines and models of shoes on site.

The House of the shoe calls back(reminds) that Lillers was, before the war 39-45, one of the most important national centres of manufacturing of shoes. Economically, Lillers knows full employment thanks to this industry. But war comes break an old dream: the market of pitiless export does not any more allow to compete with overseas market. Limited to the utilitarian shoe, the shoe industry decreases. The last one manufactures her doors strongly in 1996\. Today, it is the memories(souvenirs) of an auspicious period that are gathered(collected) in this house of the shoe.
