Visit of the remains of the Billy-Montigny Pit 10 mine site:

The working-class city of the mining area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Presentation of the different types of housing and the house of the engineer and chiefs;
Visit of the buildings: baths-showers of workers and employees, workshops-stables-store offices;
Well search games n°10,
Visit of the building of the machines/ boiler room, always threatened with demolition and that the association of the Friends of the Fosse 10 of Billy wishes to protect to preserve the memory of the miners.
Visit of an exhibition on the disaster of 1906 of the Mines de Courrières. Provided that the weather allows.

A former coal mining site, Pit 10 was operated by the Courrières Mines Company on the municipal territory of Billy-Montigny between 1900 and 1953\. Nowadays some buildings are still visible, including the machinery/boiler building built at the end of the 19th century. Since 2012, the Friends of Billy’s Pit 10 association has been occupying the building to protect it and give it a new purpose. We offer regular visits to the site and exhibits of mining materials characteristic of the time of Pit 10.
