Built in the 16th century, the «Henri II Pavilion» was enlarged and redecorated by the Duke of Orléans (1725-1785). Sold as a national property in 1795 to Jean-Michel Deviolaine, the latter increased the land and made it a «palace». «Monsieur Deviolaine’s house was a palace much appreciated by me...», writes Alexandre Dumas in his Memoirs. Ducal residence, then royal residence: King Louis-Philippe bought the Henri II Pavilion in 1843 in personal property.
