The Centuloise walk

The Centuloise walk is a walking and commented tour of the city to discover the riches of the medieval city and its history. This walk of about two hours through the streets and squares, will allow you to discover the ramparts and medieval gates of Saint-Riquier as well as the many remarkable sites of the city. The walk will end with a visit to the belfry, a UNESCO-listed building.

The belfry of Saint-Riquier is a massive and square tower that dominates the town’s communal squares from its 18 meters high. Built in 1283 on its current site, it is the visible symbol of communal power in front of the power of the abbots of the Abbey of Centule (former name of the city of Saint-Riquier). Seriously damaged by the troops of the king of France Louis XI in 1425, it is rebuilt in 1521\. It will then retain its defensive turn allure. In 1785, thanks to a donation from the Count of Artois, the future Charles X, the belfry was restored, fitted out and became the Town Hall. From the Middle Ages to the present day, part of its history remains engraved in its walls, whether through visible changes in the structure of the rooms and floors or through the graffiti engraved in the prison.
