At the table of the giants, the gastronomy aboard the liners
The exhibition invites everyone to make a foray into this unique world of maritime travel between the Old Continent and the New World, where culinary art occupies minds and satisfies appetites, making the crossing an unforgettable moment.
Thanks to an exceptional collaboration with the EPCC French Lines & Compagnies (Le Havre) and the Écomusée de Saint-Nazaire – Escal'Atlantic, the Port Museum invites you to discover the fascinating history of gastronomy at sea.
AN IMMERSIVE EXHIBITION IN AN EXTRAORDINARY AND SUMPTUOUS UNIVERSE
After an introduction to the world of the Transat’s cruise ships, symbols of the golden age of sea crossing before the success of the airlines, you will discover the luxurious dining rooms dedicated to the catering of passengers, like that of the liner Normandy, longer than the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles!
Then lift the veil on the other side of the scenery, discovering the challenges of food supply, the feats of taste made daily by an army of outstanding cooks, but also the high traditions of service at sea and the preparation of exceptional menus.
More than 400 exceptional loans (tableware created by the largest French manufacturers, posters, models, menus, uniforms, furniture, etc.), as well as photographs and period films related to the liners La Provence (1906), France (1912), Paris (1921), Île-de-France (1927), Normandy (1935) and France (1962) will complete the evocation of this extraordinary universe, where the dining room is transformed into a real «gastronomic theatre».
Welcome on board!
