The Potager des Etournelles is a very rare example of a vegetable garden (4000 m2) listed as a Historic Monument where beauty and biodiversity have combined since its creation in 1850. The walk continues in the long paths of the romantic park, lined with remarkable trees that bypass a pond and its island. The visit ends with the discovery of the majestic 1670 frame of the harvest barn built by Louis Béchameil, superintendent of the buildings of Philippe d'Orléans.

About the location

The kitchen garden full of flowers was drawn so as to offer an attractive view(sight) on cultures from the entrance(entry): a soft artificial slope towards the church believes the effect of prospect(perspective). Ten plots of land lined with boxwood and with cut shrubs offer a wonderful show of flowers, fruits and vegetables in the shade of the background Romanic bell tower. The park takes the turn of an English-style garden with a pond dug(accentuated) around an island. The barn was built by 1670 by Louis Bechameil, superintendent of the buildings(ships) of Philippe d' Orléans to avoid the loss of a part(party) of harvests by the open-air storage.
