About the location

Église Saint-Nicolas
Place Saint-Nicolas, 88300 Neufchâteau
  • Vosges
  • Grand Est
Built in a slope with strong gradient close to the site of the old(former) ducal castle dominating the city, the church St Nicholas' Day succeeds a primitive(initial) building of the end of the XIth century or of the beginning of the XIIth century. The crypt, called locally church-bass, as well as the gros-œuvre u transept of the church - high, placed very on the West undoubtedly for topographical reasons, are the end of the XIIth century. The nave of the church - high date to a great extent of the XIIIth century but its original plan in Latin cross was corrupted by the addition of many chapels, raised(brought up) on both(all) sides to the initiative of rich families, mainly in the XVth and XVIth century. The choruses(choirs) of the crypt and of the church - high were rebuilt in 1703-1704 in Gothic style. To see: Unction of the Christ (low church), and reliquaries the from XIIth centuries till XVth centuries.
