The church of Viel-Saint-Remy is one of those fortified churches that were built in the Ardennes. If the oldest part dates from 1238, many elements date from the fifteenth century including the addition of 2 turrets with loopholes surmounting the north foothills of the church.
The building houses a 16th-century Pieta. The transept, the adjoining chapels and the choir are in late Gothic style. The choir is shallow, with Renaissance medallions depicting the four evangelists.
Like all fortified churches, it served as a shelter in case of war against the Spaniards. Thus, there was in the church, an oven, a well and the bell tower served as sheepfold. This church is in the wake of buildings to visit such as the post office of Launois sur Vence or the church of Jandun located a few kilometers from the village.
