About the location

Chapelle des missions africaines
1 rue des Missions-Africaines, 67500 Haguenau
  • Bas-Rhin
  • Grand Est
The chapel of the African Missions in Haguenau is integrated into the sanctuary which was built in German times for the Knaben Besserungs und Eriehungsanstalt. This shrine has two chapels, to take into account the presence of young people and educators of the two confessions. The main one is dedicated to Catholic worship and the small one, contiguous perpendicularly, reserved for Protestants. From 1927, when the African Missions occupied the former premises of the agricultural colony, this church, placed under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception, was consecrated exclusively to the Catholic confession. Th. Bohl made several stained-glass windows for the chapel, notably in honour of St Arbogast, the patron saint of the African Missions.
