The museum is located on the place(square) Stanislas, remarkable architectural ensemble conceived(designed) in 1755 by Emmanuel Héré. He manifests the wealth of the historical heritage of the city. In 1936, a first extension is realised by the brothers André, sons(thread) of Emile André, celebrates architect of the School of Nancy. In 1999, an important construction site(work) of renovation and of enlargement managed by Laurent Beaudouin registers the museum in a resolutely contemporary architecture while including into the basement of the vestiges of fortifications the from XVth century till XVIIth century.
The route(course) of exhibition(exposure), scénographié by Luca Lotti, allows an at once chronological and thematic discovery of collections. Endowed with the label Museum of France, the museum, across its collections, proposes a large panorama of art in Europe from the XIVth century to our days. In painting(paint), Italy is very present, as well as the Schools of the North. The different currents of the French painting(paint) are also illustrated. The museum shelters a remarkable collection of glass factories Daum, the beautiful whole art of Far East established(constituted) by Charles Cartier-Bresson as well as an anthology of works of Jean Prouvé.
