About the location

Château des Rohan - musée
39 rue du Château, 67190 Mutzig
  • Bas-Rhin
  • Grand Est
This "Wasserburg" fortress was surrounded by ditches. Horseshoe building, composed of a main building body, with a forebody connected to the wings by loggias. The courtyard is closed to the west by an arc grid. Three square courtyards are located at the corners, except in the South-East where a chapel was built. In 1985, it is converted into a cultural center. A wing houses the museum. A large Jewish community lived in Mutzig. The current synagogue was built in 1787: a square main hall illuminated by beautiful stained glass windows of the nineteenth century, a tribune where the officiant performed his service, and a gallery on the first floor intended for women (now arranged as an oratory).
