About the location

Musée du fort de la Pompelle
RN 44 direction Châlons-en-Champagne, 51500 Puisieulx
  • Marne
  • Grand Est
High place of the First World War, the Fort de la Pompelle was built from 1880 to 1883 to complete the fortified belt of Reims, designed by General Séré de Rivières after the defeat of 1870. This is the only fort that remains Allied hands during the Great War and assured the defense of Reims. Completely refitted as a museum of the Great War, it houses a vast collection of artillery pieces, equipment, infantry uniforms, trench crafts, objects of daily life and military medicine, period documents, as well as a remarkable collection of over 300 models of German helmets. The whole is highlighted by a contemporary scenography punctuated with many interactive terminals. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the daily life of the trenches and in the history of this site classified as a historical monument.
