The cold plant, located in Petite France in Strasbourg, built in 1895, operated until 1990\.
In 1897, to meet the growing needs of the food industry, brewers and butchers set up a bar ice-making plant in the former premises of these mills. This factory, enlarged in 1903 and 1912, will not be modified later, and has thus reached us practically intact, constituting a rare testimony of a 19th century factory, with all the authenticity of its monumental installations bathed in their period atmosphere. The energy supplied by the river also rotated two alternators producing three-phase alternating current, one of which was built by Brown and Boveri in 1897\. This device is an extremely rare archaeological piece, constituting the oldest alternator of this firm still preserved and in working condition.
The site presents giant machines to understand the production of artificial cold by gas expansion, hydraulic turbines and generators (for energy), and compressors and condensers (for cold). The
