The princes of Sedan converted to Calvinism in 1562\. In 1593 the first stone of the Protestant temple was laid, with dimensions equivalent to those of the temple of Charenton. In 1685, Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes and had all the temples of France razed. Sedan escaped destruction: it was transformed into a Catholic church by the architect Robert de Cotte.
