About the location

Cathédrale Saint-Étienne
Place Charles de Gaulle, 54200 Toul
  • Meurthe-et-Moselle
  • Grand Est
This cathedral was built between the 13th and 16th centuries.
Started in 1221, the construction of the Cathedral of Saint-Étienne de Toul lasted nearly three centuries. With a Romanesque plan and Gothic construction, this building is a symbol of the city’s rich episcopal past and an emblem for an entire territory. Remarkable for its size and beauty, Saint Stephen’s Cathedral attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year. The harmony of the building is remarkable, while its construction has been influenced by so many architectural styles. A flamboyant facade, two Renaissance chapels, one of the largest Gothic cloisters, are some examples that illustrate this diversity of forms.
With its majestic Saint-Étienne Cathedral, the Gothic Toul proudly bears its name.
