Inaugurated on August 30, 1850, the Consistorial Synagogue of Metz has been listed as a historical monument since 1984\. It is the work of the local architect: Nicolas Maurice Derobe. Together with the Jewish Community Cultural Centre, it is the heart of one of the oldest and most dynamic Jewish communities in France. It houses several associations: educational, social, cultural, artistic, as well as religious and secular. The community centre is an integral part of the synagogue.
