In 1923, the City of Reims organises a competition(help) for the construction of new central Les Halles. These are intended(designed) to replace the old(former) market of the place(square) of Forum. The jury holds(retains) the project of the Reims architect Emile Maigrot (1880-1961), so much for the sobriety of its architectural party: a big(great) vessel in parabolic bow(arc), that for the originality of its technique of construction: a thin vault of ferroconcrete 5 cms in thickness covered with a 2 cm screed. The engineer Eugene Freyssinet (1879-1962) is held(retained) to assure(insure) the execution of this technical prowess. Inaugurated on October 26th, 1929 then presented to the Lounge(Show) of the artists in 1930, the building is dedicated as head - of work of modern architecture. Further to their closure(lock) in 1988 and threatened with destruction, halls(markets) are listed(classified) in conformance with(for) Historic monuments in 1990\. After an exceptional construction site(work) of restoration(catering), new halls(markets) were inaugurated in September, 2012\. They welcome again a market of detail (every Wednesday, on Fridays and Saturdays) as well as of exhibitions(exposures) on the mezzanine.
