The National and University Library of Strasbourg received on December 3, 2017, fifty-seven items in deposit from the Department of Oriental Antiquities of the Louvre Museum. This corpus of objects highlights an ancient civilization often poorly or little known. The history of the Phoenicians extends over a vast historical but also geographical era. Known for their alphabet, the Phoenicians were also great craftsmen, whose production was inspired by rich economic and cultural exchanges with other societies. This visit allows us to discover a new part of our history as well as a different aspect of this civilization.

After four working years, the historic building(ship) of the national and university Library of Strasbourg reopened to the public on November 24th, 2014\. The large-scale construction site(work), confided(entrusted) to the agency Nicolas Michelin and Partner, changed entirely the internal spaces of the library(bookcase), while keeping(preserving) and by restoring its outer envelope of 1895\. Stakes were numerous: modernisation of spaces and services(departments) to the public, accessibility enlarged, put in safety(security) of the building(ship) and of collections, bets in free access of 150 000 volumes, development of a digital library, creation of an auditorium and of an exhibition hall in support for a science policy and cultural enriched... During European Heritage Days, the public spaces will be freely accessible(approachable) to all: the monumental staircase overhung by the dome in 27 metres in heights, the Republic reading room and its adjacent rooms offering a marvellous prospect(perspective) on the place(square) of the Republic, the Space heritage or else the Dome reading room. Guided tours will also allow, throughout weekend, to discover the wings of the library(bookcase) (modern and historic stores, visitables reserves, restoration workshops and workshops(studios) of digitization) and to deepen the understanding of the building(ship), of its architecture and its services(departments).
