Mined underground for half a century, anhydrite has not finished revealing its full potential.

The hills northeast of Thionville are home to a veritable natural mine of white grey gold. Anhydrite, here, is a calcium sulphate compound that is revealed in finely crystallized or granular mass.
The quarry is operated underground under the rules of the art and according to the tried and tested method of the chambers and pillars abandoned by the company for more than half a century. After drilling and blasting, the extracted stone is directed to the crushing plants and then to the micronization station.
Come and discover the manufacturing processes of a product with unsuspected wealth, used in many fields of activity such as agriculture and construction.

About the location

At Koenigsmacker, L'Anhydrite Lorraine has been mining white gold since 1970 on the hills east of Canner Creek. This white grey substance composed of calcium sulphate is highly prized by cement and fertilizer manufacturers in particular, and has been mined underground since 1976.
At 2,000 tonnes per day, the site produces 400,000 tonnes of anhydrite each year. The site would still have “significant reserves”.
