Discover an exhibition bringing together 90 original prints inviting you to a journey through Europe from the 16th to the 19th century.

The engraving made its way from Mainz, town of Gutenberg, to Italy, and then back to the North. It has inspired artists from France, German-speaking countries, the Netherlands, England, Scotland...
The music displays a conspicuous presence at these times. We can see images of musical scenes that range from mythological illustrations to the depiction of great events in the lives of rulers (coronations, funerals) to grotesque or caricatural scenes. There are present from the beggar or itinerant musician to the bourgeois or aristocrat playing an instrument or listening to music in the private circle. In accordance with the ideal of rebirth, the print shows us the glorification of Greco-Roman deities, and other religious representations. In vanities, which are still lifes, music appears as a symbol of the passage of time as the art of the moment, thus showing the ephemeral character of human existence.
