The Château de Montcornet is a rare pearl in the Ardennes, by its authenticity, and by the architecture of a unique fire plan. This medieval fortress was built between the 11th and 12th centuries. Antoine de Croy, lord of the castle from the 15th century, brought important transformations, adapting to the modernization of the attack and defense devices with the new weapons that constitute artillery and the use of powder. In 1613, Charles de Gonzague bought it. He was building Charleville, the capital of his principality of Arches, some distance away. The castle passed into the hands of La Meilleraye, then to the Duke of Aiguillon who dismantled it in 1766\. It has been restored for 50 years and has been listed as a historic monument since 1926.
