The buildings of the Prefecture include the successive improvements and enlargements of the former preceptory of the Antonists, dating from the early seventeenth century, of which a facade overlooks the garden. In 1821, it was enlarged by the departmental architect Dubois who created a neoclassical facade on the street. The Prefecture was enlarged again from 1904 to 1908 by the departmental architect Charles Royer who designed an eclectic facade overlooking Reggio Square, realized by the company France-Lanord and Bichaton.
