The village that appears in 1213 under the name of Machodium depends on the diocese of Reims. Its church, like the rural churches of the region, is therefore inspired by the architecture of the constructions of Reims: a Gallo-Roman city with many major Romanesque buildings, including the Basilica of Saint-Rémi.
The church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul is of Romanesque style with a nave and a transept of the twelfth century. The choir dates from the 1520s, as well as a rich piece of furniture, including the tombstone of Pierre de Machault. Three funerary slabs occupy the lower side near the south entrance door. It is the slab of the burial, moreover displaced, of Pierre de Machault, bailiff (judicial officer representing the authority of the king or a prince) and of his wife the damsel Henriette de Thuisy.
