The Dreyfus affair permanently fractured France at the turn of the 20th century. At the origin of passionate clashes and deep flaws, the Affair has mainly manifested itself in Parisian circles. However, provincial life was not spared: in various ways, Champagne was directly or indirectly involved.
Witnesses or direct protagonists, many Champagne personalities meet locally, at the most tense moments of the Affair. They thus constitute an astonishing gallery of characters closely linked to the Dreyfus affair.
Jean-Michel Pottier is a lecturer in literature and a member of the Zola team (CNRS/ITEM) and has been teaching for several years a semester course on the Dreyfus Affair at the Rachi Institute.
