The National Nature Reserve of Pâtis d'Oger and Mesnil-sur-Oger covers an area of 130 hectares. It presents a mosaic of very specific natural environments, housing an important biodiversity.
The diversity of geological substrates (chalk, marl, grinding clay), the relief and the influence of former uses on the site (pasture and extraction) are at the origin of this diversity of natural environments.
On the forest plateau, with more or less acidic and humid soils, the heaths develop at Callune, meadows to molinie as well as an important network of shallow pools. On the calcareous and marly soils of the Vallon de la Halle-aux-Vaches of the dry lawns at Orchidées, an alkaline sloping marsh and a dry oak to pubescent Oak intertwine.
These contrasts between humid and very dry environments, acidic or alkaline, generate an exceptional wealth of life and reinforce the heritage interest of the nature reserve.
