About the location

Commune de Basse-Ham
Rue de la mairie, 57970 Basse-Ham
  • Moselle
  • Grand Est
Basse-Ham is a village on the banks of the Moselle River. The river has determined its history, contributing to its development but also sometimes causing serious damage. The presence of a ford is probably at the origin of the first human implantation. For millennia, the village was largely rural thanks to rich silt lands.
In the 19th century, the passage of the railway allowed it not to stay away from regional development, just as in the 20th century its connection to the motorway network. The exploitation of the sand pits, the activity of a fabric of small enterprises, then the establishment of important industrial zones have made it a village with a dynamic economy that has managed to keep the charms of the typical Lorraine rural urbanism.
