"Castles disappeared from the Dawn" - exhibition
Lovers of castles or local history? This educational exhibition shows the rich interiors of three large castles in the now extinct Aubois territory, revealing the lifestyle of the residents, great lords and noble ladies.
In the background of the exhibition: the impressive view of the gardens of Pont-sur-Seine. It is in this country setting that the documents that allow us to imagine the vanished splendours of these large houses are staged: remarkable façades, gardens animated with fountains, interior decorations, etc. This ensemble is magnified by a selection of paintings from the Museum of Fine Arts that decorated these imposing buildings.
The research undertaken to design this exhibition has led the curator to new discoveries. A very beautiful set of images from the collections of the National Library of France made it possible to understand the original location of the works preserved in the museum and made at the time to decorate the castles. In addition, the exhibition benefits from loans from the Archives départementales de l'Aube as well as a private collector.
A game for the whole family… Young and old alike are invited to play architects-decorators by placing the paintings presented in the exhibition in the right place of the model of the Chapelle-Godefroy castle. Coloring is available for children.
