About the location

Oratoire carolingien
Place du Bourg, 45110 Germigny-des-Prés

The oratory, built towards 800, was an element of the villa built by Théodulfe. Built on a plan in the shape of Greek cross, this unique(only) building(ship) in France underwent many restorations(caterings) in the XIXth century, in the course of which only the mosaic, real masterpiece compound(made up) of 130 000 tesselles, found its original aspect. Idealised by an architectural environment within which got involved in mosaics under arcades and panels(signs) of stuccos in the various decorations(sets), work illustrates a passage of the Bible: the Ark of Alliance(Wedding ring). Two cherubs are represented surrounded with two angels, between whom appears god's hand.
