In the Loire Valley, a large part of the history of France has been written. Castles and gardens known throughout the world have been built along this great river over the centuries. Around kings, queens and their court, a whole cultural life developed. During the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci was one of the main actors in many areas of Art.
This influence over the centuries has gone beyond the banks of the Loire to reach those of the Cher, the Indre and the Loir. In the Loir Valley, the Jardin du Plessis Sasnières is located in a small valley, leaning against a limestone hill. The buildings, with their sober architecture, are reflected in the pond fed by white water springs.
This English garden covers 11 hectares. The Park, located on the plateau overlooking the valley, is organized along a central alley planted with magnolias with fragrant flowers. The garden, at the bottom of the valley, is arranged around the pond. It is the work of Rosamée Henrion, a passionate woman, of trees, shrubs and plants. The plant productions are made with refinement. The geography of the places has made it possible to create a real «paradise» which uses with harmony the slopes of the ground, the running water and the buildings. The walk is done on paths of English grass mowed twice a week. L'Enclos Fleuri” has a regular design and has been planted with perennials, roses and shrubs that bloom from spring to fall. Each "mixed border" is organized by colour theme, yellow and white, pink and blue, dark colours, etc. An apple arbor brings flowers in spring, shade in summer and red apples in autumn.
At the top of the waterfalls grows an impressive Gunnera, a plant of Brazilian origin with huge leaves.
Hedges and topiaries punctuate and organize the space in the garden.
The label «Jardin Remarquable» has come to reward all this work and the talent of Rosamée Henrion and her team. After visiting the garden, a tea room offers homemade pastries, with original recipes including carrots and beets. The shop offers a wide range of decorative or gardening objects focused on nature and plants.
