Chapelle templière de Francheville
Francheville, 18220 Brécy
Templar chapel of the twelfth century being restored. This member of the Commanderie des Bordes was, at the time of the Templars, an important Commanderie. We find proof of this in two charters of 1288 which were part of the archives of the Seigneurie d'Avor. After the arrest and condemnation of the Templars, Pope Clement V decreed the dissolution of the Temple Order by the papal bull on March 22, 1312 and made public at the Council of Vienna (1311-1312). After the dissolution of the Order, the opposition between the papacy and the kingdom of France continues in the attribution of the property of the Templars put under sequestration of the church. This opposition turned against the king of France and generally in favor of the pope; the Bull Ad Providam transferred in perpetuity all the Templar property to the order of Saint John of Jerusalem. With the Hospitallers the preceptory of Francheville was but a considerable estate, with seigneurial rights, chapel, cens and rentes. By the 15th
