About the location

Église Notre-Dame
Place de l'Église 28800 Bonneval
  • Eure-et-Loir
  • Centre-Val de Loire
The church is the, primitive(initial) Gothic style, and dated mostly the beginning of the XIIIth century, however the low parts(parties) of the bedhead and three nearby windows of every collateral are in round arch and reflect the end of the XIIth century. The beginning of construction returns it therefore contemporary of the cathedral of Chartres. Pine nuts(Cogs) adorned with hooks are the XVIth century. She(It) is 47 metres in lengths, 20 metres in width in the facade and 19 metres in the bedhead. It contains three naves, each of seven spans flanked(thrown) by foothills supported with bows(arcs) of a big(great) lightness(thoughtlessness), three first ones are provided with useless gargoyles representing ridiculous characters. Around the main nave, a triforium or gallery of ogival arcades of a very beautiful effect are pointed out. Above windows in ogive are also. The vault of the nave is stone and rests(bases) on twelve columns. Several posts were destabilised during the inundation of 1665\. The iron beam which separates the big(great) nave replaced the wooden crossbars which strengthened it. Central rosette of the church Notre-Dame. Above the high altar, they observe a very beautiful rosette, adorned in 1871 with a stained-glass window of rather good style. He(It) represents the bosses of churches and chapels of old(former) Bonneval. In the centre, the Virgin(Virgo) (this part(party), broken during bombardments was replaced recently and agrees badly with the set(group)), above, the Saviour; to the left saint Michel, saint Martin, Saint-Maurice and saint Jacques Person over 18; to the right: saint Roch, saint Jean Evangelist, saint Laurent and saint Giles. All other stained-glass windows were put at the end of the XIXth century, in the course of the restoration(catering) of the church begun(undertaken) and brought to a successful conclusion between 1885 and 1893\. Some glass roofs: the cave of Heavy, black Virgin(Virgo), Assumption, saint Theresa is more recent. Near organs represent two big(great) paintings(boards) resulting(coming) from the Saint Florentine refectory of the monks of the abbey and, the one " the miracle of the loaves and fishes ", the other " Jesus at Simon the Leper». The latter(This last) is a copy of a painting(cloth) of Nicolas Poussin. The arrow of the slates which surmounts(overcomes) the church is adorned with a gallery and amounts to 65 metres above ground level. She(It) shelters three bells among which old(former) two are listed(classified), the one dates of 1598, other one of the 1793\.
