Jean Cœur was the son of the bourgeois merchant and banker Jacques Cœur and Macée de Léodepart, daughter of Lambert de Léodepart. At just 25, he was elected archbishop of Bourges. The latter was a member of the collegiate chapter of Levroux and even had a chapel in the collegiate church of Saint-Sylvain.
