The castle was built in the 13th century. It was bought in 1765 by Nicolas Dupré de Saint-Maur, intendant of the generality of Bourges, who launched redevelopment work that would give the castle its current appearance. The castle was bought by the municipality in 1957 and was transformed into a museum in 1988.
