About the location

Cité Royale de Loches
5 place Charles-VII 37600 Loches
  • Indre-et-Loire
  • Centre-Val de Loire
South front of the castle of Loches, organized around the Romanesque keep of Foulques Nerra. There is an impressive catalogue of the evolution of fortified architecture between the 11th and 15th centuries. The site served as a prison from the middle of the 15th century, including illustrious prisoners such as Philippe de Commynes and Ludovic Sforza. The royal dwelling corresponds to the residential part where the kings of France came to hunt in the forest of Loches. It was built in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. One sees there a magnificent oratory built at the request of Anne of Brittany
