In the "isle de Gâvre", the sardine press of the cove of Porh Puñs – the port of the well of the Saint-Gildas fountain – was requisitioned in 1695 by the Marquis de Lavardin, lieutenant general of the king in Brittany, to house the crew of a battery armed with 16 guns and a mortar. Since that time, the fort of Porh Puns has continued to evolve with the evolution of artillery.
Today military coastal defence has been replaced by the defence of biodiversity and coastal landscapes. These themes are at the heart of the actions of the joint union Dunes Sauvages de Gâvres in Quiberon now owner of the place.
This guided tour is an opportunity to discover this former military site by placing it in time and space. It also allows to satisfy our curiosity in a stroll inside the fort, usually closed to the public and to enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramas on the bay of Lorient and the island of Groix.
